Cwave Shipping Policy

Cwave Communications: Shipping, Freight & Logistics Policy (USVI)

At Cwave Communications, we ensure that both individual radio units and large-scale infrastructure projects reach their destination securely. Because the USVI presents unique logistical challenges, we have developed a dual-track shipping strategy to handle high-value electronics and heavy industrial freight.

1. Small Parcel Shipping (Radios & Accessories)

For individual Hytera radios and portable accessories, we utilize express carriers (FedEx/UPS).

  • HAZMAT Compliance: All shipments containing lithium-ion batteries are prepared in strict adherence to IATA/ICAO “Dangerous Goods” regulations.

  • Delivery Time: Standard air freight typically requires 5–7 business days.

  • Physical Addresses Only: For security and tracking purposes, we require a physical street address. No P.O. boxes.

2. Bulk Freight & Infrastructure (Towers & Large Projects)

For heavy equipment, including tower sections (e.g., Rohn 45G), mounts, and bulk infrastructure components, we coordinate specialized freight services.

  • Port-to-Port vs. Door-to-Door: Unless otherwise specified in your project agreement, we utilize Ocean Freight via recognized freight forwarders specializing in Caribbean logistics.

  • Palletizing & Crating: All tower components and fragile hardware are professionally palletized, strapped, and shrink-wrapped. For high-value antennas or sensitive electronics, we provide custom wood crating to prevent saltwater corrosion and structural damage during transit.

  • Weight & Dimensions: Please provide accurate site access details for final delivery. If the delivery site in the USVI cannot accommodate a standard 53-foot tractor-trailer, “lumper” services or smaller “straight truck” transloading must be scheduled in advance at the recipient’s expense.

  • Lead Times: Ocean freight transit times vary. Please allow 14–21 business days for consolidated ocean shipments. Expedited air-charter options for critical infrastructure components are available for an additional premium.

3. Customs, Duties & Taxes

The U.S. Virgin Islands is outside the U.S. customs territory.

  • Excise Taxes & Duties: All shipments, including bulk freight, are subject to local USVI excise taxes. These are the sole responsibility of the customer.

  • Carrier/Forwarder Fees: Note that ocean freight forwarders charge separate “destination handling charges” and “drayage fees” upon arrival at the port in the USVI.

  • Documentation: We provide a comprehensive Bill of Lading (BOL), commercial invoices, and packing lists with every shipment to ensure timely clearance through the Virgin Islands Port Authority.

4. Logistics Recommendations for Large Projects

  • Insurance: For all bulk infrastructure projects, we highly recommend purchasing Full Replacement Value Insurance. Standard carrier liability is limited and often insufficient for heavy steel and specialized communication hardware.

  • Inspection upon Receipt: When receiving freight, the customer is responsible for counting pieces against the Bill of Lading and noting any external damage on the driver’s copy before signing. Failure to note damage upon arrival may void insurance claims.

  • Site Readiness: Ensure that the final destination is prepared to receive heavy freight. Cwave Communications is not responsible for offloading equipment unless specifically outlined in the project Statement of Work (SOW).

Strategic Logistics Tip:

For your tower projects, consider Consolidated Shipping. We can often stage multiple small shipments (radio hardware, mounts, grounding kits) to arrive in the same container as your tower sections. This minimizes your administrative burden and reduces the “per-shipment” brokerage fees charged by carriers and local port authorities.
